Well the jury is still out on these. I have only put about 16 miles on them. The build quality is definitely good, the sizing was correct. This midsole is hard as a board right now. I like everything else about the shoe thus far but I'm hoping the midsole breaks down a bit. Plus I do have the carbon plates in. I need to run with our them the see if that's better. My heels feel good and have settled into a little depression in the insert but my toes are slamming on their bottoms on the midsole. Maybe an interchangeable midsole; as in say three different levels. Hard med and soft. I wanted to try them in hopes of getting a 200 miler shoe but this midsole hurt hurt like hell in only 16 miles. All trail but not necessarily technical, mountain bike trails. Any advice on a softer midsole or a technique for softening or changing it ?

Excellent update

I thoroughly enjoyed my first pair and with this new pair the added sock around the angle is great. Keeps all the right amount of rocks and sticks out of my shoes. The new lugs on the bottom of the soul is awesome very grippy. Comfortable to run in.

Best of Speedland's Best

Of all the brilliant Speedland commissions, the GL:SVT is the most exciting technical trail-running option of all. Having run more than 100 miles on snowy and rocky Colorado single-track trails since my pair shipped in late November, three features stand out. First, the traction on challenging winter surfaces (except on melted and refrozen blue/black ice, where spikes are needed) is superb, equally or exceeding any other trail shoe from the bigger brands. Second, the comfort is unrivaled due to combination of excellent lockdown; a wider toe box; and the best midsole of all the Speedlands. Third, the gaiter works! It isn't too tight or too lose and it keeps debris and snow out. All of these features, along with the more slender platform as compared to the GS line, make for an incredibly agile shoe that disappears on the foot. I'm thinking this (or the GL:SVT and the GS:RAR) will be my shoe(s) for my next 200-plus miler.

You CANNOT Slip!

The traction on these shoes is unreal. I took them out in some real PNW sloppy weather and put them to the test. Even on muddy downhill trails I felt like a mountain goat in these bad boys. Worth every penny!
